Community Celebration Event!
As the school year comes to an end, BYS would like to take the time to invite you and your family/friends to our end of school year Community Celebration taking place on Thursday, June 30 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at the Malton Community Center (3540 Morning Star Drive, Mississauga)
The evening will be full of activities, great networks with community programs/services, music and many more !
This Community Celebration will also be an opportunity for us, BYS, to introduce our Youth Advisory Council.
Black History Month Virtual Event
BYSSI has partnered with the Brampton Library and ResQ in creating a collaborative event for Black History Month. Please join us on February 15, 2022 at 7:00-8:30pm in an evening full of education, fun, music and special guest, Chef Horace Spence, who will be showing us how to prepare ackee and saltfish with fried dumplings, Jamaica’s National Dish. Post-Secondary: Fireside Chat Series
Join the Black Youth School Success Initiative (BYSSI) and Queen's University's Equity Ambassadors January through March for their post-secondary workshop series.
BYSSI Post-Secondary Scholarship
The Black Youth School Success Initiative (BYSSI) with the support of Alectra Utilities, will provide three $500 scholarships to former BYSSI students who are currently enrolled in post-secondary studies in 2021 - 2022. The scholarships will be provided to assist with tuition fees and/or education related expenses (books, transportation to campus, rent, etc.).
Financial Career Mentorship Event
United Way's netWORKS program, CIBC Capital Markets, and BYSSI are collaborating for another virtual career mentorship event. Youth will have the opportunity to: connect with career mentors in the financial sector, learn how to jumpstart your career, and hear from mentors about their career journeys.
BYS Youth Advisory Council Outreach
The BYS is currently seeking approximately 8 youth between 11 - 21 to establish a Youth Advisory Council to support BYS and it's collaborative partner agencies in providing programming for youth that is informed by youth.
Post-Secondary Information Night
The goal of this event is to help students and their families explore post-secondary options and gain a better understanding of the available financial supports.
